Churston Woods
Experience the tranquility of Churston Woods on a peaceful stroll through lush vegetation and towering trees. Located in the heart of Brixham, the woods are part of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
A winding, picturesque path leads you through the trees, with plenty of interesting wildlife and plants to observe along the way. The trees provide plenty of shade and shelter from the sun. In the summer months, the woods are alive with colour and activity. You might even be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a red squirrel or a rare species of butterfly or moth.

The path around Sharkham Point is easy to follow, with plenty of signs to point you in the right direction.
Along the way, you can explore the secluded beaches and coves that line the coast.
On the south side, the rocks are perfect for a spot of rock pooling, as well as offering some interesting rock formations and cliff faces to admire.
When you reach the tip of the point, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the whole coast, with a bright sky and golden hues.
Brixham Harbour
After a pleasant stroll around Sharkham Point, I decided to explore the quaint fishing town of Brixham.
I followed a winding path to the harbour, where spectacular views of the sea and the Grand Western Canal awaited me. The stunning landscape around the harbour was a perfect spot to pause and take in the beauty of the area.
The harbour itself was bustling with activity, with everything from fishing boats to pleasure cruisers making their way in and out of the harbour. It was a pleasure to watch the fishermen going about their daily business.
The harbour was also home to a variety of shops, restaurants, and cafes, with something to offer for every taste. I had a lovely time exploring the harbour and admiring its architecture.
Afterwards, I headed to a nearby beach to watch the sun set over the horizon.
All in all, it was a wonderful experience that I won’t soon forget.
Broadsands Beach
Gaze out at the stunning Broadsands Beach from the harbour and you’re sure to be captivated by its beauty. With its golden sand, blue waters, and rolling waves, Broadsands is a serene spot to take a leisurely stroll.
The beach is a popular spot for sunbathers, swimmers, and surfers alike. It’s also ideal for a family excursion, with plenty of rock pools to explore and shallow waters that are perfect for paddling.

Brixham Battery
Leaving behind the beauty of Broadsands Beach, I’m now turning my attention to the stunning Brixham Battery. The history of this old fortification dates back to its construction in 1855, during the Crimean War.
This coastal artillery battery was built to protect the harbor against a possible French invasion. Today, it stands as a great reminder of the past and is a great spot for a walk.
The views from the Brixham Battery are simply breathtaking. The whole of Torbay can be seen from the fort, making it a great location for a picnic. I’d recommend exploring the old tunnels and gun emplacements as well as taking in the stunning views. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon and a great way to explore the history of Brixham.
St Mary’s Bay
Continuing your exploration of Torbay, you’ll find St Mary’s Bay, a stunning stretch of coastline lined with dramatic cliffs and hidden coves.
An easy walking route meanders along the shoreline, taking you past the picturesque fishing village of St Mary’s Bay.
You’ll see a wide variety of rock formations, from towering sea-cliffs to hidden coves and natural archways.
This route also takes you past the iconic St Mary’s Bay Lighthouse, which is the landmark of the area.
The views from the top of the lighthouse are simply stunning – perfect for a romantic evening stroll.
The area is home to a variety of wildlife, from seabirds to dolphins.
You may even spot a seal bobbing in the waters!
As you make your way along the route, you’ll find plenty of restaurants and pubs, and even a few picturesque shops.
All in all, St Mary’s Bay is a great destination for a relaxing walk, with plenty of stunning scenery and wildlife to admire.
Torbay Circular Walk
Exploring Torbay further, you can take on the Torbay Circular Walk, a challenging but rewarding route that takes you along the coastline and through some of the area’s most beautiful sights.
Starting from Brixham Harbour, the route heads east towards the picturesque coastal village of Kingswear. From here, you’ll take in breathtaking views of the river, enjoy a peaceful stroll through woodlands, and explore the ruins of a castle and several ancient churches.
The route then heads south, taking in the stunning views of Torbay and Torquay before looping back around to Brixham. Along the way, you’ll be able to spot some wildlife, including deer, foxes, and a variety of birds.
The Torbay Circular Walk is the perfect way to experience the beauty of the area, so make sure to bring your camera and wear comfortable walking shoes.
Fishcombe Cove
Take in the sights and sounds of the seaside as you wander along Fishcombe Cove, a stunning spot offering panoramic views of the bay.
