Picnic and Play at Cressing Temple

Cressing Temple

Back To Events family enjoying picnic time

Visit Parks popular Picnic and Play event returns for the summer! Gather your family and your picnic and join us for some traditional summer fun.

Enjoy a memorable day of activities including live music, puppet shows, storytelling, a self guided trail and a wide range of outdoor games. James Ford Events will be entertaining adults and children alike with live music with interactive musical instruments throughout the day. The ever popular Fools Puppet Companye will return to bring their exciting mix of puppetry, song and mayhem to the event, with shows throughout the day. Alongside this, Kenneth Bruce of Leigh Storytelling Circle will be delighting us with tales of magic, mystery and adventure at various timeslots- simply read the chalk A-frames around site to find out exactly what’s going on when!

We’re also delighted to welcome Sitara Dance, belly dancing group, to Picnic and Play on Tuesday 15 only and Eden Falconry on Wednesday 16 only. If you’re finding it hard to choose between the wonder of colourful costumes and the grace of fascinating birds of prey then, at only £3 per child, there’s no reason not to book on and visit both days! There’s no shortage of things to do as you explore the Tudor walled garden on a self-guided trail, and then pick the best spot for your picnic while you decide which of a wide range of fun outdoor toys and games to try first. Once you’ve settled the question of who can hula hoop the longest, take time to speak to the Companie of Merrie Folke, our on site re-enactors who can answer questions on medieval history and teach you traditional garden games.

Not only can you enjoy lunch at the stunning onsite Tiptree ‘Barns’ tearoom (pre booking on 01376 585081 is recommended as they get rather busy) but you can also enjoy gourmet burgers, vintage style ice cream, tasty sweets and speciality tea and coffee from our hand-picked on site vendors. This is the ideal event for families, with a full schedule of entertainment and a fantastic laid back atmosphere. Wide open lawns offer plenty of room for picnics, and the historic open barns offer plenty of shade or cover as required.

Parking onsite is free. Please leave your dog at home for this event.
