Indigo Dyeing

Cressing Temple Barns

Back To Events A bright, blue cotton bag with interesting patterns . You can make this.

Indigo, the colour between blue and violet in the spectrum, the colour both of ceremonies and our ubiquitous blue jeans. What is so special about it? Where does it come from? Why was it known as “The Devil's dye”? We will look at examples of indigo dyeing from around the world and talk about the different shibori techniques and how the indigo vat works. Then you will be invited to try out the stitching techniques on a sample piece of cotton. You will leave with a reusable cotton bag stitched and dyed.
