Sensory and teddies in woods

Three teddy bears sitting on the grass under a bush

For many of the young children who come on this trip, it could be their first visit without their parents or carer. Therefore, Teddies in Woods is designed to be a gentle and fun experience that highlights our desire at Country Parks to be the early intervention team for nature.

The bears are all carefully looked after and the day moves with the pace of the children. The morning is focussed on exploring the environment though sensory activities.

In the afternoon, children have fun taking their teddies on a picnic. Hands-on activities include role play, storytelling, animal games and mini den-building. Activities that can be included in your Sensory section:

  • Sight – Rainbow mobile, colour matching and leaf painting
  • Sound – Listen for special sounds and make rhythms
  • Smell – Mix up your own smelly cocktail
  • Touch – Meet a tree game, bark rubbing, textural scavenger hunt and feely bag
  • Taste – Time for lunch!

Activities

  • Story Time –  Act and sing along as we set the scene
  • Bear Hunt – Find teddy's new hiding place
