A day at the seaside

Key stage 1 boy turns over a rock on beach at Cudmore Grove, Essex

Join our Rangers for this most enjoyable day away from the crowds, where you can step back in time and enjoy a traditional day by the seaside.

Cudmore Grove on Mersea Island is the perfect location for taking groups of children to experience the sights, sounds and smells of the seaside.

On this seaside adventure we'll discuss what's changed over the years at Cudmore and how it has become a tranquil place to enjoy the coastline.

Your class will discover the part Cudmore Grove played in WWII and why even Roman soldiers wanted to retire here.

This is a relaxed and enjoyable day to share with your class; sure to create memories that will last a lifetime. It can include:

  • Building sandcastles – from the sand and pebble beach
  • Landscape variation – Compare the landscape to where the class is based.
  • Exploring habitats – Discover the plants and animals that make their home by the water
  • Beachcombing art – Gather shells, seaweed and driftwood to create huge land art pictures on the beach.
  • Treasure hunting – don’t forget to bring a bag to put those seaside treasures in!

The day can be extended, depending on tide times.
