The consultation on proposed car parking charges closed on Sunday 18 March. Thanks to everyone who sent us their thoughts. All feedback will now be reviewed as part of the decision making process and we'll be communicating the results soon.

Our Country Parks provide valuable outdoor spaces for people to enjoy and this year there's lots to come with a range of events. There are lots of activities which we provide free of charge such as the play trail at Great Notley, the Gruffalo trail at Thorndon, Stickman at Weald, Wild Wednesdays at Danbury and the new coastal themed adventure play equipment at Cudmore Grove. Over the last couple of years we've invested more than £1million in the parks for the benefit of our visitors with improvements to footpaths and accessibility, car parking, facilities, signage and play equipment and there are plans for further investment to come. We need to make sure we can continue to maintain, develop and invest in the country parks. Car parking charges are one of the ways we can bring in funds to support this. Car parking charges at the Country Parks have not increased for three years, since March 2015, with the exception of Weald which were reviewed in 2016. In line with Essex County Council's fees and charges policy, a review of charges has taken place and an increase is proposed.

Subject to the public consultation, proposed changes will be implemented at the end of April 2018.

If you're a frequent visitor to the parks and you like value for money, have you thought about buying one of our annual season tickets which would give you access to unlimited parking at all of our parks and costs £65 for twelve months or £40 for six months. Just speak to one of our park rangers or simply complete the Car Park Season Ticket Application Form (PDF - 180 KB) and take it with you on your next visit.

Current costs

To find the cost of parking at your local park, find the park under places to go. Costs are also displayed at each of the parks on the tariff boards by each payment machine. Several of our parks now accept contactless payment. This will continue to be rolled out across all Parks. We've also taken the opportunity to simplify the parking tariff. Costs apply to all vehicles, including Blue Badge holders and tax-exempt vehicles. There are Blue Badge discounts on season parking tickets. Coaches and minibuses of over 15 seats are charged £15 a day. Motorcycles park free.
